anna levyAnna Levy

Anna Levy was born in a small town in Maine. Growing up, she was one of the only Jewish students in school. From a very early age she was curious about the world, Tikkun Olam and her Jewish identity. Realizing she had a fascination with languages, at the age of 17 she spent a semester in France as an exchange student. She went on to major in Mandarin Chinese at Bates College where she also spent time living in Southwest China. During college she became very interested in conflict resolution and put together “Art and Alterity: Beyond the other as Enemy in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, a two week symposium that brought artists, musicians and scholars to expand dialogue amongst Bates College students. She was also actively involved in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program where over the course of four years was the mentor to 3 middle school aged girls. After college, she was the recipient of the United States Department of State Critical Language Scholarship for Mandarin Chinese, but turned down this opportunity to spend the year in Israel. During her time in Israel, she studied at Haifa University, Mayanot Institute for Jewish Studies and taught English at the Teva School in Tel Aviv. Upon her return to the States, with an interest in medical research she accepted a position at New York University Medical School working in the department of orthopedic surgery.
