Katy Rubin
Katy Rubin is a Theatre of the Oppressed practitioner, teaching artist, actor and circus artist. She has facilitated Forum Theatre workshops and performances in dozens of NYC public schools; with the NYC Coalition Against Hunger; with recent immigrants, in English and Spanish, at the YM/YWHA; with teen mothers and high school students recently released from prison; with employees and local young women at the Eileen Fisher Foundation and Headquarters; at the Riverside Church; and with clients of the Jan Hus Homeless Outreach Program in the Homeless Theatre Troupe. As a teaching artist, she works with Creative Arts Team/ CUNY, Theatre Development Fund, Urban Arts Partnership, and other arts education organizations. She trained with Augusto Boal, the founder of the technique, at the Center for Theatre of the Oppressed—Rio de Janeiro, where she learned to facilitate interactive theatre in Brazil’s psychiatric hospitals, prisons, etc. She also participated in Jana Sanskriti’s International Theatre of the Oppressed Festival in Kolkata, India. Katy is an actor with the NYC-based theatre company The Anthropologists, and has performed internationally with circus-theatre companies as a stilt-walker and fire-eater. She holds a BFA in Acting from the Boston University School of Theatre and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, and is a graduate of the NYFA Artists as Entrepreneurs Boot Camp.
