Stuart Singer is a dance artist and dance educator who currently resides in Brooklyn, NY. Born and raised in Western Massachusetts, he attended the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter High School, where he intended to study classical piano, but after taking his first ballet class and falling in love with movement, ended up graduating with a concentration in dance. He continued his formal training at the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY-Purchase College, where he received a BFA in Dance Performance. At nineteen years old, Stuart joined the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company (2004-2008), with which he collaborated on the creation of new works and toured extensively throughout North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. He then joined the Wally Cardona Quartet (2008-2010), with which he collaborated and performed in Really Real, a commission for Brooklyn Academy of Music's 2009 Next Wave Festival. Stuart recently re-joined the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company as a Teaching Artist; he is currently a Spring 2011 guest faculty member at Bard College under an educational partnership with the company, has recently re-staged the works of Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane at Princeton University, and is looking forward to upcoming teaching residencies at the North Carolina School of the Arts and the University of Wyoming. As a freelance teacher, he has taught at Mount Holyoke College, SUNY-Purchase College's Conservatories of Dance and Theater Arts, and Mimar Sinan University (Istanbul). He has also worked with the American Dance Legacy Institute of Brown University, contributing to the development of methods and materials for teaching modern dance in elementary and middle schools.
